Why Am I Learning Adobe InDesign?
I have been slowly learning how to use some of the Adobe Creative Clouds apps. I have some experience with Adobe Premiere and Adobe Illustrator and I have really been wanting to add Adobe InDesign on my tool belt. I love learning different softwares that can take my creative pursuits farther. Print has always been a big interest so I thought this free inquiry project was a perfect opportunity to familiarize myself with Adobe InDesign.
Why Am I Making a Local Flora and Fauna ID Booklet?
I have always appreciated the natural world, and love noticing all the native species to Vancouver Island, but I struggle to organize all of my findings in one concise, organized place, and that is why I am choosing make my first print an ID guide.
My Plan
Step 1- Purchasing and downloading the software: Adobe has a student discount that makes the subscription only 26 dollars a month which is in my willing to pay.
Step 2- Learning the keyboard commands: Knowing Adobes keyboard shortcuts makes navigating the software much easier and allows me to work more efficiently.
Step 3- Creating my booklet template: I want to create a template that makes it easy for me to easily input my photos and information
Step 4- Plant ID and photos: Exploring my local area identifying plants near me and taking photos to eventually put into my booklet
Step 5- Animal ID and photos: Identifying local animal species, their migration patterns and sourcing images.
Step 6- Putting all my findings into my booklet: I will take all the information and images I have sourced and place them into my booklet template
Step 7- Design: I want this booklet to not only be informative but I also want it to be aesthetically pleasing, so I will be playing around with page orientation and design elements.
How Am I Going to Learn?
I will be using YouTube as my main resource to learn how to navigate InDesign. I will also be using Seek by iNaturalist which is an app that allows me to take photos of plants and animals and identifies them and gives information about each species.

Now what?
I will begin by downloading Adobe InDesign and get myself familiarized with the software.
